Run Run Shaw
Maybe you don’t know Run Run Shaw or TVB. Maybe you don’t watch movies in his theaters. Most people only know the performers on the screen. Liu Dehua is one of them from TVB, for example. But do you remember the comfortable seats in the library? Do you remember the Shaw Building at your school? These are always there because of Shaw.
Shaw played an important role in the history of Chinese movies. Shaw always worked hard, his family wasn’t poor at his young age, though. He"and"his brothers all had one thing in common: They were interested in movies. They built the biggest Shaw Brothers Studio in the 1950s. All kinds of people joined his studio. He chose the movies carefully by himself. More than 1,000 movies came out in the theaters. The tickets sold out quickly"and"the theaters were usually crowded. Shaw Brothers Studio was the most fantastic company in Hong Kong.
Shaw gave China lots of money to build schools. He also set up the Shaw Prize for creative people. The most important is that many of the Shaw Prize winners also won the Nobel Prize later. What do you think of him so far?
